Updates Fall 2013
1.  Our first (KOZ) Kodaly workshop of the school year will take place on Saturday, Nov. 4th, 2013 at Willard Orchard Hills Elementary in Springfield, MO from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Please plan on attending.  Fees are as follows:  KOZ member are $15, OAKE member are $20, College Students w/ I.D. are $5, and Non-members pay $45.  Joining KOZ for $75.00 a year will allow you to attend any workshop throughout the year for only $15.  Please consider this professional opportunity.  You can learn more about the Organization of Kodaly Educator’s by visiting the main website www.oake.org.  You can also join the organization via this site but be sure to put KOZ as your affiliated chapter.  We receive perks for memberships.

2.  Our KOZ spring workshop will take place on Saturday, February 15th, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Willard Orchard Hills Elementary with the same fees as above.  We are very excited to announce that Sandy Knudson will be presenting!  She is planning on spending three hours on incorporating part-work into the Kodaly curriculum and one hour on advocating for your Kodaly curriculum.

Dr. Joy Nelson, Prof. of Music from University of Oklahoma will be our featured clinician for our KOZ spring workshop.

Presentation Topic:   Banishing Boredom!!  Bringing the Basics to Life! – presented by Dr. Joy Nelson.
  • Quick, imaginative activities that motivate children to listen and respond to music. Ideas for building a strong skill and conceptual foundation, incorporating singing, reading, art music, and much more!
Joy Nelson is Professor of Music at the University of Oklahoma, where she directs the Kodály program and teaches courses in elementary general methods. A Presidential Professor and winner of the Regent's Award for Superior Teaching and the University of Oklahoma Students Outstanding Faculty award, Joy has presented workshops and seminars throughout the world, including China, Singapore, Latin America, Europe, MENC, AOSA, and OAKE. She has served as President of the Oklahoma Kodály Educators, Chair of the 1992 National OAKE Conference, and most recently as President of the Organization of American Kodály Educators. She is currently serving as Director of the Board of the International Kodály Society.
Joy earned her Kodály certification at Holy Names College and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Stanford University. Her publications include The Teacher, the Child, and Music, published by Wadsworth in 1986, and The Music Effect, published by Alfred in 2006.

Here is list of dates to mark on your calendars for upcoming KOZ events.

1.  MMEA at Tan-Tar-A, Jan. 25th - 28th, 2012 - I will be co-presenting a session with Julie Romeo on Technology/Smart Boards in the elementary music classroom.  Be sure to stop by and check it out!!!

2.  Saturday, Feb. 25th, 2012 - Workshop in the Fine Arts building at BBC in Springfield MO.  Workshop begins at 9:00.  We are excited to announce that Mrs. Melisa Bauer, master teacher and Kodaly instructor, will be our featured clinician!!  We can't wait to soak in everything she has to share!!  You won't want to miss this!

3.  Saturday, May 12th, 2012 - 6th Annual Kodaly of the Ozarks Honor Choir - This is an all day event.  We are still in the process of narrowing the hosting venue down.  It will either be at Evangel University in Spfld. MO or at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO.  Check back for updates.
